Middlesbrough Boss In Running For Vacant Premier League Manager Post

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick is in the running to be appointed as the new head coach of Leicester City after the sacking of former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, according to several bookmakers.

William Hill are giving odds of 12/1 for Carrick to be the new Foxes boss. Meanwhile, Coral have him rated at 14/1, while Bet365 are offering odds of 18/1 for the former Manchester United captain to take the job.

Despite this, Carrick is far from the favourite to land the role. Currently, the overwhelming leader of the pack is former Chelsea boss Graham Potter, who was sacked just yesterday – mere hours after Rodgers’ dismissal.

Currently, Potter has odds of 5/6 with both Coral and Betfred to take the mantle at Leicester. Additionally, Skybet, Paddy Power and Betfair are all giving away odds of evens.

Would Carrick be a good fit at Leicester? It is a massive job to take on – the Foxes have a large squad, filled with internationally-recognised talents. Not only this, they’re also caught up in a relegation dogfight – whoever takes the job will need to deal with this enormous issue before anything else.

It would be a step up for Carrick – and not necessarily one that he needs to take. He is building a serious project at Middlesbrough and is learning very quickly – despite a shock defeat against Neil Warnock’s Huddersfield Town at the weekend.

Moreover, the Foxes would be taking a risk by appointing such an inexperienced head coach when others are available. With managers such as Rafa Benitez, Ralph Hasenhuttl and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in the mix, Carrick is likely to remain at Boro for now.
