Middlesbrough fans were dismayed with their team’s 2-1 defeat against Luton Town in the Championship last night – several Boro fans took issue with the performance of referee Graham Scott.

Scott made a number of controversial calls, including an instance where he awarded Luton a penalty, despite several observers believing the ‘foul’ to be a mere dive.

Additionally, some Middlesbrough fans were disappointed with Michael Carrick’s decision to rest star player Chuba Akpom – here’s what they had to say.

Undeserved defeat, better team, bad decision from Ref got us on the night.

It can sometimes be concerning sometimes that we tend to go flat for period when conceding a goal. Our final ball wasn't the best tonight, Jones & Bola had bad games.

In the game against the Hatters, Middlesbrough took the lead in the first half after a composed finish from Cameron Archer. Boro were the better team in the first period, but Luton weren’t about to take the result lying down.

Tom Lockyer scored a header to level the scores on the 49th minute – later in the half, Luton were given a controversial penalty, which Carlton Morris was happy to stab home.

Middlesbrough could not find a response and fell to defeat – the loss doesn’t change their league [position, but it could have severe mental ramifications if Boro are drawn against Luton in the upcoming Championship playoffs.
