Trio Handed EFL Award Nominations After Middlesbrough’s Outstanding Season

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick, top scorer Chuba Akpom and youngster Hayden Hackney have been nominated for the EFL Awards.

Carrick is up for the Championship Manager of the Season accolade, with the Manchester United legend having been given recognition for the way he has turned Boro’s season around. Burnley boss Vincent Kompany and Coventry City head coach Mark Robins are the other nominees for the award.

Akpom, meanwhile, is nominated for the Championship Player of the Season, along with Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres and Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill.

Hackney’s rise to becoming a first-team regular for Boro has also been recognised, with the 20-year-old up for the Young Player of the Year. He will be competing with Sunderland winger Amad Diallo and Bristol City’s Alex Scott.

The Boro trio would all be deserving winners, but Akpom (in particular) should be odds-on to claim his award, considering he is leading the Championship’s goalscoring charts by quite some distance.
