Middlesbrough Weighing Up Swoop For Scottish International Defender

Middlesbrough are considering a move for Kilmarnock right-back Stephen O’Donnell, according to reports in the Scottish media. The 27-year-old has 11 caps for Scotland and has been performing well for his club in the Scottish Premiership.

His form has also attracted the likes of Celtic, but it seems they have cooled their interest in recent months after securing two other right-backs before the Scottish transfer window closed at the start of September.

It may leave the way clear for Boro to make an approach. O’Donnell’s contract runs out at the end of the season and the Teessiders could open talks as early as January.

Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate will likely be keen to improve his options on the right-hand side. with Jonny Howson having had to provide cover in the position, with the club’s only recognised right-back being Anfernee Dijksteel.

The Dutchman has been a regular starter since his switch from Charlton in the summer, but O’Donnell would provide more competition.
