Middlesbrough Vying With Two Clubs For £20m Rated Championship Ace

Middlesbrough are one of three clubs interested in signing Brentford striker Neal Maupay, according to reports in the English media.

Boro have been joined by Aston Villa and Huddersfield Town in pursuing the 22-year-old, but the Bees forward may only be sold for a significant fee.

Reports indicate that Brentford would demand in excess of £20m for Maupay, which would likely put off any potential suitor from making an approach.

Villa are said to be interested in a loan deal as they look to balance their books with Financial Fairplay rules in mind. Huddersfield are also only looking at temporary deals.

Middlesbrough, meanwhile, would be the likeliest team to come up with the cash, but the asking price is still likely to prove a major stumbling block.

Maupay has scored 16 goals in 27 appearances for Brentford so far this season, despite the Bees struggling in the Championship. The Frenchman was signed from Saint-Etienne for £1.6m 18 months ago.
