Middlesbrough Could Miss Out On 27 Year Old Defender As MLS Clubs Circle

Middlesbrough are in danger of missing out on Burnley defender Ben Gibson in the summer, according to reports in the English media.

A number of Major League Soccer clubs are believed to be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old’s situation after he was frozen out at Turf Moor.

Gibson is currently training with Boro, despite the fact he is still contracted to the Clarets. It is believed he had a falling out with manager Sean Dyche after he failed to secure a loan move away from the Premier League side in January.

The centre-back was determined to leave Burnley before the transfer window closed but no offer was deemed acceptable, with loan proposals from the likes of Watford having been turned down.

Gibson signed for the Clarets from Middlesbrough for £15m back in August 2018, but during his time with the Clarets, he has only started six games in all competitions, prompting his desire to leave.

Boro manager Jonathan Woodgate would likely be keen to see him return to the Riverside Stadium but the finances of the deal could prove prohibitive.
