Middlesbrough Among Five Teams Who Failed In Loan Swoop For England U21 Ace

Middlesbrough were one of at least five teams interested in signing Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke on loan before the transfer window closed, according to reports.

In addition to Boro, Premier League side Huddersfield Town, Scottish club Rangers, Ligue One outfit Lyon and Aston Villa were all looking to recruit the England Under 21 international.

Liverpool turned down all offers for Solanke as manager Jurgen Klopp wants the 20-year-old to continue his development at the Merseyside club.

The forward played 27 games in all competitions for the Reds last campaign, although he managed to score just one goal, coming on the final day of the Premier League season in a 4-0 win over Brighton.

Solanke has only made six starts in total since arriving from Chelsea, and with the young striker unlikely to dislodge the front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, he may have to move on loan in January to increase his game time.

Whether Middlesbrough will be still interested in the player by then, we will have to wait and see.
