“If The Deal Is Right…” Boro’s Top January Target Lays Out His Transfer Stance

Rotherham United midfielder Dan Barlaser has refused to commit his long-term future to the Millers.

The 25-year-old is believed to be a top transfer target for Middlesbrough but, even though his contract expires at the end of the season, the player was reluctant to say whether he would be staying at his current club:

“We have got many months until the end of the season. I need to speak with the Mrs as well as she is the boss. I have said it before, I don’t really think about that until later on. I just focus on trying to play well for Rotherham and trying to get wins. We will see. If the deal is right, I will have a good think about it.”

Rotherham boss Matt Taylor spoke out earlier this month to deny “false” reports that Barlaser was set to depart the New York Stadium. The Championship club are still said to be in talks with the playmaker over signing an extension but it’s clear that an agreement has yet to be reached.

At this moment in time, it isn’t known whether they will decide to offload the former England youth international in January. Considering he could leave on a free transfer next summer, it will be the last chance for the Millers to get a fee for the midfielder. Boro will be waiting in the wings to see what decision is made.
