Chelsea Lead Arsenal In Pursuit Of Middlesbrough’s Teenage Prodigy

Chelsea are ahead of Arsenal in the battle for Middlesbrough forward Calum Kavanagh, according to the Sun. The Blues are looking to take advantage of a contract dispute between Boro and the player, who has come through the ranks of the academy at Rockcliffe Park.

The 16-year-old is said to be keen on signing a short-term deal in order for him to keep his options open but the Teessiders would like the striker to commit his long term future to the club.

Kavanagh has come to the attention of Premier League scouts after a good season playing in the Under 18 Premier League, scoring six goals in 13 appearances.

Middlesbrough will be keen to keep hold of one of their best youth prospects but the Irish Under 17 international could well be tempted by a move to Stamford Bridge, with manager Frank Lampard having blooded youngsters such as Mason Mount and Billy Gilmour in the first team this campaign.
