Chelsea Just One Of ‘Numerous Clubs’ Targeting Teenager With Boro Likely To Receive ‘Significant’ Financial Windfall

Middlesbrough midfielder Finley Cartwright is not just being targeted by Chelsea, according to Teesside Live.

Reports over the weekend linked the teenager with a switch to Stamford Bridge but it is believed that “numerous clubs” are keeping tabs on his development.

Cartwright hasn’t signed a professional deal at Boro due to the fact that he has yet to turn 17, which is the age when footballers are eligible for a full-time contract.

It means any team, including Chelsea, will be able to swoop in and secure the England Under 16 international’s signature without negotiating a price with Michael Carrick’s team.

However, Teesside Live still believe that Middlesbrough will be entitled to “significant” compensation. Due to the fact they have a Category 1 academy, it will be factored into the fee that the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) will set if he does opt to leave for another club before he signs on to professional terms.

Cartwright has been making waves in Boro’s youth teams this season, having played in both the FA Youth Cup and Under 18 Premier League. While it is unsurprising that he is attracting interest, it would be a blow to lose him.
