Boro Tipped To Challenge Rival Championship Clubs For Irish International Striker

Middlesbrough are among the clubs vying to sign Brighton striker Evan Ferguson on loan, according to reports.

The 18-year-old made his international debut for the Republic of Irland against Norway last week and he made his second appearance versus Malta at the weekend.

However, Ferguson has struggled for game time at the Seagulls this season, despite scoring in the Carabao Cup back in August. He has been prolific for the Under 21s, scoring against Gillingham’s senior side in the EFL Trophy last month, whilst bagging five goals in only six matches in Premier League 2.

With the player clearly ready to make the step up, the decision has been made to loan him out in January so he can gain more first-team experience.

Boro will have to see off six Championship teams, including Sheffield United, Millwall, Bristol City, Wigan, Preston North End and Birmingham City for Ferguson’s signature, while League One side Ipswich Town are also said to be interested in the forward.
