Boro Plotting Move For “Fantastic” Striker Who Scored 17 Goals Last Season

Middlesbrough are targeting Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer ahead of the January transfer window, according to reports in the English media.

The 21-year-old has struggled for game time with the Villans this season, having made just seven appearances in all competitions, and there is a possibility that he could be loaned out next month.

Archer was in a similar situation last campaign. He had scored four goals for Villa in the Carabao Cup and another six in the EFL Trophy for the Under 21s but he barely got a look in for Premier League games.

At the start of this year, he made the switch to Preston. He went on to hit the back of the net seven times in 20 appearances for North End, earning the praise of manager Ryan Lowe who said:

“His quality levels are fantastic, he’s bullish, strong, he can roll, he has got that little burst of pace too.”

Archer is likely to be the subject of interest from other Championship clubs too, so Boro may have a fight on their hands to secure the forward’s services.
