Boro Handed Boost As Celtic’s £3m Bid For Loanee Is Rejected

Celtic have had a bid for Middlesbrough loanee Patrick Roberts turned down, according to reports in the English media.

The Manchester City midfielder is currently on loan at the Riverside Stadium until the end of June but the Scottish side were keen on bringing him to Celtic Park on a permanent basis.

A £3m offer was reportedly lodged for Roberts, but City are said to be keen on retaining the player’s services, despite the 23-year-old having played only three senior games during his five years with the Manchester club.

He has previously spent two years on loan at Celtic, but he returned to the Etihad Stadium last summer before having spells with Norwich and Boro.

It is believed that manager Jonathan Woodgate would like to keep Roberts for next season if another loan deal can be worked out, but it appears City are hoping to find a Premier League club who will play him regularly in order to further his development.
