Arsenal And Liverpool Among FIVE Premier League Clubs Keeping Tabs On Boro Starlet

Arsenal and Liverpool lead a host of Premier League teams who are tracking the progress of Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney, according to reports.

The Scotland Under 21 international broke into Boro’s first team just prior to Michael Carrick‘s arrival at the Riverside Stadium and he has since established himself as a regular starter.

Newcastle, Leicester City and Nottingham Forest are also said to be watching Hackney, who could well be sold if a high enough bid is made for the 20-year-old this summer.

While the Teessiders would be reluctant to get rid of a player who has made his way through the youth ranks, the club’s financial situation means they will have to consider offers.

Boro’s failure to seal promotion to the top flight through the playoffs means some tough decisions will have to be made, although they are in a good position with regards to getting a good price for Hackney.

The midfielder only signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal back in December so there is no pressure to sell him on the cheap.

Carrick has been full of praise for Hackney

Boro’s manager has placed a lot of trust in the player who had only made a handful of starts for the club before his appointment in October. Carrick says Hackney fully deserves the plaudits coming his way:

“Hayden has been terrific since I came and the couple of games before that he played really well. That’s kind of how it works, you get rewarded for your good work. He fully deserves it. He’s been a credit to himself and his family with the way he’s handled it. He’s just stepped in.”
